The Power of Peer Support

SQSH’s Peer Support Learning Cohort (PSLC) is an 11-week training cohort that empowers queer & trans St. Louisans to learn/practice peer counseling skills, sharpen their politics, and build community with other values-aligned people. They needed to recruit 15 values-aligned people to join the cohort and eventually go on to operate SQSH’s helpline. I designed creative materials for social media, newsletter, web, print, and events to inform & inspire potential applicants.

Social media graphics – highlighted key features of SQSH’s curriculum & political approach + encouraging applications

My Approach

  • Met with programming & recruitment staff to discuss collateral needs, brainstorm approach, and pitch art direction.

  • Drew on photos & doodles from past cohorts to humanize visuals.

  • Created vibrant, multicolored, “speech bubble” designs that expressed the support & care vibes of the cohort while complementing SQSH’s existing branding.

The Outcome

SQSH successfully recruited 15 cohort members who graduated from training and are now providing support on the helpline! Compared to past years, these creative materials were especially effective in driving sharing and visibility – from 2023 to 2024, Facebook impressions (on the launch post) grew from 153 to 3,227. Instagram impressions saw a 407% increase.
